1 - 16 oz. bag small white beans
1 small red onion, finely diced
3 Tbls. butter
1/2 cup dark brown sugar
1 small red onion, finely diced
3 Tbls. butter
1/2 cup dark brown sugar
1/2 cup ketchup
1/2 cup BBQ sauce
1/4 cup vinegar
1 Tbl. garlic powder
1 Tbl. onion powder
1 Tbl. dry mustard
1/4 tea. cayenne pepper
Prepare the small white beans as per package, save 1 cup of the boiling water for later.
Melt butter in a large saucepan, add finely diced onion and cook very slowly until they turn a dark brown and sweet, about 25 minutes. Do not rush this process, the onions will burn and not caramelize evenly.
Add dark brown sugar and stir slowly over low heat until sugar melts.
Add remaining ingredients until evenly mixed. Add cooked small white beans in batches and slowly stir into onion/sauce mix. Depending on desired consistency you may not use all the beans. If sauce is too thick use the bean water set aside earlier. #TLLBLND
